The Essential Nappy Bag Checklist
A well-packed nappy bag is the difference between a smooth outing and a public meltdown (yours, not the baby\'s). Here\'s what every dad should have in the bag before leaving the house.
The Non-Negotiables
- Nappies — 1 per hour out + 2–3 extras
- Wipes — a full pack (you\'ll use them for everything, not just nappies)
- Nappy bags — for sealing dirty nappies when there\'s no bin nearby
- Portable change mat — because you\'ll be changing nappies on all sorts of surfaces
- Change of clothes for baby — full outfit including socks
- Bottle or sippy cup — with pre-measured formula or expressed milk if needed
- Dummy / pacifier — plus a spare (they vanish)
The "Wish I\'d Packed That" Items
- Spare shirt for you — you will get vomited on in public. It\'s a matter of when, not if.
- Hand sanitiser — for the post-nappy-change moments when there\'s no sink
- Muslin cloth — burp cloth, shade cover, emergency bib, tiny blanket. The Swiss army knife of baby items.
- Snacks for you — a hungry dad is a grumpy dad
- Sunscreen + hat — for baby (SPF 50+) and you
- Small toy or teether — the distraction weapon
- Nappy cream — barrier cream for preventing rash
By Age: What Changes
Newborn (0–3 months)
- Extra nappies (newborns go through 10–12/day)
- Burp cloths — multiple
- Swaddle or light blanket
- Extra formula/expressed milk
Baby (3–12 months)
- Pureed food pouches or jars (6+ months)
- Soft spoon
- Sippy cup with water
- Teething ring or gel
Toddler (12+ months)
- Snacks — lots of them
- Water bottle
- Small books or crayons
- Spare shoes (they kick them off everywhere)
The Dad Mode Difference
Dad Mode doesn\'t just give you a static checklist — it knows your baby\'s exact age and gives you tailored advice for what to pack, what to feed, and what to expect. The Travel Ready feature builds custom packing lists for any trip type. The Snack Hub suggests age-appropriate food ideas. And the Mess Rescue feature tells you how to clean up when Plan A goes wrong.
